Ductwork straights, fittings, registers, line sets and thermostats are the honest surplus here: the pieces every install over-orders. Whole furnaces and condensers show up too, and those are a different purchase: matched systems, refrigerant rules and licensed installation change the math.
Check before you buy
Check duct sections for crushing
sheet metal duct is cheap until it is oval. A stepped-on section never seals right at the joints again.
Buy registers and grilles by measured opening
the nominal size is the duct opening, not the faceplate. Measure the hole, not the old register's outside edge.
Treat equipment as a system, not a part
a furnace or AC condenser must match its coil and its refrigerant. An unmatched bargain condenser can obligate a whole system.
Ask for the model and serial before driving
age, capacity and refrigerant type are all decodable from the plate. Anything on R-22 is a boat anchor no matter the price.
