Sell your leftover flooring before it ends up in the dumpster
Extra tile, LVP, laminate, or hardwood is usually the overage from a job, or a color that changed. List it for local pickup. BuildTrader does not take a cut of a materials sale and does not handle the money.
Who buys leftover flooring
Usually someone with a small repair, a closet, a discontinued run they are trying to match, or a DIY project that does not justify a store minimum. They need the same product you already have. Brand, color, and the SKU off the box label are what let them tell.
What sells
Full boxes and partial boxes both belong. So does the trim that matches them. Write the brand, the color name, and the SKU in the listing. If the boxes share a lot or dye number, include that too: the same product from two runs can be a different shade.
- Full or unopened boxes of tile, LVP, laminate, or hardwood
- Partial boxes, including half a box
- Matching trim, reducers, and transitions
- Underlayment that came with that floor
How to price it
Use the flooring calculator or the tile calculator to turn an area into boxes, so the listing says how much you have and a buyer can check it against a room. The flooring installation cost guide and the tile installation cost guide are planning ranges for an installed job, not a shelf price and not a discount to copy. Price the lot for a local pickup: what it is worth to someone who can come get it.
A listing from the photos
Photos come first. The posting form can draft a title, category, and details from them, and you check every field before it goes up. Add the square footage printed on the box and the lot number if the draft missed them.
Pickup
The listing shows an approximate area, never a street address. After you agree, share a curb or a garage in messages. Let the buyer look before they pay. Cash, or an app you both already use, changes hands there.
Common questions
Can I sell half a box?
Yes. Say how much is left, and whether the pieces are full lengths or cuts. A partial box is a normal listing.
Do I need the receipt?
No. The box label is the useful part: brand, color, SKU, coverage per box, and lot number. A receipt is optional.
What if nobody bites?
The listing stays up until you mark it sold or pending. If you stop confirming it is still there, it pauses itself after 45 days so buyers are not sent to material that is gone. You can bring it back from your listings, or from the confirm link in the reminder email.
